Please be aware of the following. As long as the Mets are alive in the postseason then there is a good chance you will hear some mention of them in the Hometown View. You may view it as overkill and you may be correct but let me give you ten reasons why:

1. They’re the only “local” team still playing.

2. They have not been in the playoffs since 2006.

3. Baseball is America’s National Pastime even if it’s fallen way behind pro football in popularity and TV ratings.

4. They have a dynamic group of young pitchers led by Matt Harvey, Jacob deGrom, Noah Syndergaard and Steven Matz.

5. I love saying the name Yoenis Cespedes especially after he hits monster home runs.

6. I have been a Mets fan as long as I can remember and once owned autographs from former greats like Johnny Lewis, Tommy Davis and Art Shamsky. I lost those but I still have a personalized autographed picture from Ed Kranepool and I’m never losing that.

7. Former Ocean County high school pitchers Al Leiter, Jeff Musselman and Jerry DiPoto all pitched for the Mets.

8. Fan favorite and World Series mini-hero Mookie Wilson lived in Lakewood and commuted to Shea Stadium when he played for the Mets.

9. With the exception of say 1969-73 and 1985-90 the Mets have always taken a back seat to those guys in pinstripes. That means we Met fans have taken more than our fair share of teasing, busting, ribbing and verbal harassment from Yankee fans. As Herb Brooks said before the U.S.A. hockey team took the ice against Russia in the 1980 Olympics (and I’m paraphrasing a bit), “This is your time, their time is done…it’s over.”
Well Mets fans this is our time and we need to make the most of it.

10. You know that disclaimer that airs at the beginning of this segment which says something like the opinions of Kevin Williams are not necessarily those of anyone with a high IQ and rational thought process? Well that means I can basically say anything I want so for as long as the blue and orange are still playing, Mr. Met is patrolling CitiField, Curtis Granderson is chewing gum and smiling and Yoenis Cespedes is wearing our uniform the only three words that count are: LET’S GO METS!
