Chairman of the Borough's Environmental Commission, Chris Constantino, says every year the festival draws more and more people, and this year, they are expecting nearly 75 exhibitors to promote environmental awareness.

"The Earth Day event showcases vendors of green products and ideas, while trying to instill environmentally responsible ideas and practices into our younger generations," says Constantino. "There will be activities, games, and rides for the kids.  In addition, there will be food prepared by Jersey Shore BBQ, Shore Fresh Seafood, Cool Concessions LLC and Shore Point Foods, as well as music performed by the Sherman Brothers, the Soup Sandwich Band, and DJ Trish."

The theme of this year’s Celebration and Photo Contest is, “Point Pleasant is Wild About Nature."  Constantino says students from Point Pleasant Borough schools had the opportunity to go out and take pictures of the scenic areas of the Borough, while concentrating on wildlife conservation.

The Commission will be awarding prizes to the top 6 photos submitted.  Also, a $500 Environmental Commission Scholarship will be awarded to a senior of Point Pleasant Borough High School this year (please reach out to the Borough High School guidance office for details).

The Commission always welcomes donations, and is still accepting applications for all exhibitors and vendors.  For more info, please visit the Point Pleasant Borough Environmental Commission Facebook page.

Constantino is encouraging everyone to join Clean Ocean Action's Beach Sweeps before the celebration begins Saturday.  If you decide to attend, please wear gloves, hard soled shoes and dress for the weather.  Beach Sweeps takes place rain or shine!  As far as the Earth Day Celebration, the rain date is Sunday, April 27th.  The event runs until 4 p.m.

Also, Ocean First Bank's Shred Day is Saturday, April 26th from 9 a.m. to 11a.m. at the 2400 Bridge Ave. branch of Ocean First Bank.  Go Green and help protect against identity theft by shredding and recycling your old financial records and paperwork in their giant shredder.
