In a Trenton federal courtroom, Chad Weber, 23, was also ordered to remain under parole supervision for 10 years following his release, relinquish the computer and cell phone used to exchange images, pay $5,570 in restitution, and register as a sex offender, according to the office of New Jersey U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman.

The sentence is based on Weber's guilty plea to one count of possessing images of child pornography.

According to authorities, the lewd exchanges rose to the attention of federal investigators in April 2013. Agents combed chat logs and web-based messages spanning back to the preceding February.

Investigators said many of the messages were sexually explicit, as were images of each other that Weber and the girl traded. Weber acknowledged his awareness of her age in some of the messages, and admitted having images of her stored in his PC and phone.
