15 units burn at Aberdeen apartment complex

Fifteen units have been damaged in a three-alarm fire at an apartment complex in Aberdeen, displacing about 30 residents.

Flames broke out early Tuesday afternoon at the Chelsea Village Apartments on Cross Street according News 12 New Jersey. Helicopter video of the building showed a large hole in the roof. NJ.com reported earlier that the flames were out as crews continued looking for any possible hot spots in the building, which was declared uninhabitable due to the smoke, fire and water damage.

No injuries were reported, although one firefighter was taken to the Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel for injuries suffered while fighting the fire. Units from Aberdeen, Matawan, Keyport and Union Beach helped put out the flames.

The American Red Cross' Jersey Coast Chapter is sending a team of disaster responders to assist with those displaced by the fire according to the Asbury Park Press. A fire station in Matawan is also being used as a temporary shelter.
