Two members of the Gloucester Township Police Department were treated at a local hospital following a house fire Tuesday night.

According to a press release from the Gloucester Police Department, the fire broke out at about 7:19 p.m. on the 200-block of Hobart Drive. Police responded to the location after getting reports of a dwelling fire with possible entrapment.

"First arriving officers reported smoke conditions coming from the residence. One neighbor, who attempted to extinguish the fire, was located outside the residence suffering from smoke inhalation," police said in the press release.

When they arrived, police officers and EMS workers tried to enter the house in an attempt to locate any additional victims that may have been trapped inside. The responders, however, "were driven back by heavy black smoke."

Upon further investigation, it was determined that there were no additional occupants trapped inside and those who resided in the dwelling were accounted for, police said.

In addition to crews from Glocester, fire department personnel from Chews Landing, Blackwood and Runnemede provided mutual aid. The crews extinguished the blaze shortly after arrival.

"Virtua Medics along with the Gloucester Township EMS Alliance responded and assisted in the incident," the press release stated.

The cause of the fire has not been determined. The Gloucester Township Fire District #4 Fire Marshal is investigating the incident.

As a result of the fire, two Gloucester police officers and a resident suffered smoke inhalation. While the officers were transported to a local hospital for treament, the resident refused medical attention. The officers were later released.

"The Red Cross was notified and responded to assist the homeowner," Gloucester police said in the press release.
