At least two of the Rutgers football players who allegedly took part in an unprovoked assault on a group of people in New Brunswick this past spring have had previous run-ins with the law.

Nadir Barnwell, 20, of Piscataway, was suspended from the team in October of 2013 for violating team rules after being charged with driving while intoxicated and careless driving, according to a report on nj.com.
Barnwell, a cornerback, was prohibited from playing in a game against Temple University. The college student was involved in a one-car accident on Route 18 North. Charges were filed following a subsequent investigation into the incident.
Barnwell is reportedly the same player about whose grades coach Kyle Flood is alleged to have inquired, possibly in violation of NCAA and university rules.
Ruhann Peele, 22, also of Piscataway, pleaded not guilty to a disorderly persons charge in October of 2014. The Rutgers wide receiver allegedly "scratched a woman's face and yanked her hair, according to a summons issued by Rutgers University police," NJ.com reported in October.
According to an NJ.com report filed after that publication obtained information through the Open Public Records Act, Peele allegedly "committed assault by purposely, knowingly causing bodily injury to (the victim), specifically by pulling her hair and scratching her face,' according to the summons written by Officer Megan Moschberger.
The two men were among a group of six individuals who authorities say surrounded a group of at least four other individuals, including a Rutgers student, and assaulted them during an incident on Delafield Street in New Brunswick on April 25.
