42 arrested, 4 on the loose in Monmouth drug sweep

Forty-two people are arrested, four more are sought, and a major Monmouth County drug artery is severed, say investigators who completed a five-month investigation, centered in Freehold Borough, and touching counties as far away as Somerset and Hudson.

Kenneth Crooms, 44, of Freehold Borough, the original target of "Operation Justice Served," was held on $1,061,000 bail, and was given an option for release on payment of 10 percent.

The arrests took place during the past month, according to the office of Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni. Investigators estimate that the network moved at least 2,500 bags of heroin and 200 grams of cocaine through the county each week.

The probe also revealed trafficking in marijuana, oxycodone and Percocet. Detectives seized more than 2,700 bags of heroin, 300 grams of cocaine, 16 ounces of marijuana and what they described as dozens of pills.

Investigation of Crooms began in late Spring of this year and grew to encompass 12 more suspects.

Crooms faces two second-degree charges of distribution of controlled dangerous substances and possession of controlled dangerous substances, two third-degree counts of distribution and possession with intent to distribute, and one second-degree conspiracy charge.

Tahean M. Greenhow, 46, of Freehold, is charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, a disorderly persons offense.

Authorities warn against attempting to apprehend them.
