I gave serious thought this morning to cancelling the Hometown View because if the government can shut down for all non-essential personnel then we could do the same when it came to programming.

However it was brought to my attention that for some people this segment is essential. Not because of the quality of the content but rather because it serves as an alarm clock.  People have told me that they use this as a reminder of where they need to be at a certain point in their morning routine or face the possibility of being late.

So what that said and because I’m not interested in being furloughed I’m here for you on this unseasonably warm Thursday.  However since I’ve wasted a good portion of my allotted time here are some quick-hitters:

The Ocean County Personnel and Guidance Association will hold their annual College Night at the Jersey Shore tonight at the Pine Belt Arena on the campus of Toms River North from 6:30-8:30.  More than 100 colleges and universities from 18 states as well as trade schools and the armed services will be represented.

With a major contribution from senior Dana Costello of Jackson the Monmouth University women’s soccer team improved to 9-1 with a 6-0 shutout over Manhattan Wednesday night on The Great Lawn.  Costello, a former Jackson Memorial standout, scored a goal and added two assists for the Hawks, who are 3-0 in their first season in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.   Costello leads the team with 7 assists along with 3 goals and is the second leading scorer.

She has been the Hawks leading scorer in each of her first three seasons and is a two-time All Conference player.  Two other ex-Jaguars are on the Monmouth roster…junior Kim Clemmer and freshman goalie Sydney Lavan.

Halloween is just four weeks from today and an early check finds that costumes of congressional figures are getting a boost in sales over the government shutdown.  Yes clown costumes are flying off the racks.
