Authorities say James Lee DiMaggio killed his close friend and her 8-year-old son Aug. 4 at his rural house east of San Diego and fled with her 16-year-old daughter.

Search warrants have said the teen, Hannah Anderson, exchanged about 13 phone calls with DiMaggio before she was picked up from cheerleading practice that day.

But Anderson says the communications were texts, not calls, and she was telling DiMaggio where to pick her up.

Anderson gave her first news interview since her rescue to NBC's "Today" show. It aired Thursday.

The San Diego County Sheriff's says it could not immediately explain the discrepancy.
