Members of the Humane Society of the United States lead the Saturday demonstratoin at Rancocas Nature Center for passage of SCR 175, which would reinstate the ban. The sponsor, state Senator Ray Lesniak (D-20) is also expected to attend.

Featured speakers include the Humane Society's New Jersey senior state director, Kathleen Schatzman, and wildlife biologist D.J. Schubert of the Washington, DC-based Animal Welfare Institute.

Leg-hold traps had been off-limits for 30 years in New Jersey, until the ban was recently lifted by the state Fish and Game Council.

Advocates for reinstatement contend that the traps unnecessarily maim feral animals and place domesticated pets at risk as well. The rally starts at 11 AM in the Nature Center on Rancocas Road.
