Cynthia Suozzo Triana grew up in Whiting and graduated from Manchester Township High School.  Now the married mother of a young son she still lives in Manchester and is well aware that children are outnumbered by the retirees living in senior citizen communities and nursing homes.

So last year when a friend shared on Facebook that she was running an “Adopt a Grandparent” program in her town Triana knew it was something she wanted to bring to Manchester.

Using Facebook she has reached out to friends and asked for their help to bring a little holiday magic to 75 nursing home residents at Crestwood Manor in Whiting and Aristacare at Manchester.  Her goal is to raise $1,500 to give each of the elderly residents a $20 gift. things like hand and foot cream, soft fluffy socks, herbal tea, etc.  She’s enlisted the help of some local girl scouts and this Sunday will be visiting Crestwood Manor with gifts for 60 residents.

About 10 4th graders will help deliver the gifts, read stories and bring ornaments as well.  On Sunday, December 18 it’s on to Aristacare which used to be Manchester Manor.  There she has a group of kindergartners who will help brighten the day for 15 residents, sing some Christmas carols and engage in other activities with them.  If Triana could raise enough money she might even add a visit to the schedule.

Her motivation is simple. We often remember children at this time of year but don’t always think of the elders of our community who have given so much over the years.  With that said for $20 you can help her Adopt a Grandparent.  The easiest way to donate is at PayPal.me/cynthiatriana/20 or you can email her at cyntriana7@gmail.com and she will provide an address to send a check.

A week after the official Giving Tuesday here’s another way to make a difference in the lives of others.  By the way an early happy birthday wish for Cyndy who turns 36 tomorrow.
