Armed robbery at Wall Township ATM

A Sunday night gunpoint holdup of an ATM user is under investigation by Wall Township police.

According to Information posted on the Wall Township Police web page, it unfolded at the Bank of America automated teller machine on Route 35 at 18th Avenue. Police were alerted at about 9:07 PM.

The victim, who had driven to the ATM, told authorities that as he sat in his car, an individual who identifed himself as a law enforcement officer brandished a gun and ordered him to withdraw cash.

The suspect took the money and the victim's car keys and ran eastward toward 18th Avenue, police said.

They're searching for a white male, in his 20s, about 6 feet in height, with dark eyes and dark eyebrows. Police said his face was wrapped in a dark blue scarf, and he wore dark-colored jacket and pants.

If you frequent ATMs, especially at night, police recommend keeping an awareness of surroundings, and calling authorities if you sense suspicious individuals or circumstances. Have your card ready before you reach the machine.

Don't count cash at the drawer or in plain view. If it's a drive-up system, keep the engine running, passenger windows up and doors locked. If it's a walk-up, park in a well-lighted spot and lock the car.
