Medical Doubleheader – Hometown View
Yes I took yesterday off but it was not much of a fun day unless you call getting a colonoscopy and stitches removed your definition of a joyous medical doubleheader.
More Teams, More Money – Hometown View
As expected the executive committee of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association approved a proposal Wednesday that continues a recent trend in the sports world by rewarding teams that are at best average.

The Toms River Regional School District will hold its fifth Athletic Hall of Fame Induction ceremony tomorrow in the Pine Belt Arena with 16 former athletes, four coaches and four outstanding teams saluted for their past achievements. The ceremony begins at 5pm, is free and open to the public and I will have the pleasure of serving as Master of Ceremonies.
Meeting Chris Herren – Hometown View
Earlier in the week I talked about Chris Herren, the former pro basketball player who was to appear last night at the Pine Belt Arena and talk to parents and students about his battle with drugs. I was not planning on doing a follow up but after being among the nearly 1,000 people who turned out to hear his story I just felt like I had to talk about this.
Meet Chris Herren – Hometown View
We may never win the war on drugs but we have learned that times have changed from the days of “Just Say No” as the battle cry to keep teenagers from experimenting with recreational drugs.
Remembering Dick Clark – Hometown View
The younger generation only knows Dick Clark as the guy who hosted New Year’s Rockin’ Eve which after he suffered a stroke several years ago was turned over to Ryan Seacrest with Clark appearing in a somewhat limited role. However I and I’m sure many of you will always associate him with American Bandstand, the music variety show that ran on ABC from 1957-87.
The Way To A Man’s Heart – Hometown View
I’ve never bought in to the proverb, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.” I mean does anyone really believe that cooking for a guy is a good way to win his affections because I certainly don’t.
Remembering Brian Weitenauer – Hometown View
It is every parent’s worst nightmare…a phone call in the middle of the night. In those seconds before you answer it your thoughts turn to your children and where they are and your mind races with imagination.
Enjoy It While It Lasts – Hometown View
Sooner or later the Mets will lose a baseball game but if you’re a long-suffering fan there’s no reason why you should not enjoy what’s taking place right now.
Celebrating Easter – Hometown View
I have to admit that I have always been confused by Easter and the way we kind of celebrate it. Obviously it’s a very important day for Christians and it brings many to church, even those who are not regulars often dressed up in bright spring colors for the first time.
A Satisfying Weekend – Hometown View
As a parent you relish in the success of your children in whatever it is they set out to do and their achievements and accomplishments are partly yours as well. As they get older you might be a smaller part of the success but certainly you maintain some pride in knowing that you might have provided the foundation. With that said this was a pretty good weekend for my two children and in one case we were able to be part of it.
