You’re going to hear a lot this week about the WOBM Christmas Classic for two simple reasons. One being it’s an event run in part by this radio station and secondly because it’s my baby. Actually there is more to it than that but you get the picture.
When you have nothing to talk about you talk about the weather. Well there’s plenty to talk about but we’re still talking about the weather because it seemed like everyone was outside this weekend. The boardwalks looked more like May than December and we spent Saturday in New Hope and Lambertville along with a visit to Peddler’s Village as we straddled the border between New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
We are two weeks away from Christmas and the one thing most of us agree on is that it just doesn’t feel like Christmas. The weather is more suited for shorts than scarves and most days all you need is a light jacket to walk around.
While most of the attention at Monday’s annual meeting of the NJSIAA was focused on controversial proposals that were voted on there were other items on the agenda at the Pines Manor in Edison. One of the highlights of the luncheon was the honoring of this year’s sports awards recipients from across the state with 7 coaches from the shore saluted.
Saturday was quite a day for Shore Conference Football as for the second year six of the 23 state sectional champions come from Ocean and Monmouth County with Jackson Memorial, Shore Regional and Rumson-Fair Haven repeating as sectional champions.
High school basketball and wrestling practice officially began on Monday but many teams are missing some of their top athletes because they are still playing football as this is championship weekend in New Jersey. When the dust settles Sunday night 23 teams will have earned NJSIAA sectional titles and as many as seven of them could be from the shore.
If it’s December it means the WOBM Christmas Classic is right around the corner and the 32nd edition of the shore’s premier holiday basketball tournament returns to the Pine Belt Arena in Toms River with first round games on December 19th and 20th.

Despite the efforts of some you simply can’t ruin Thanksgiving which for me will always be the best holiday of the year because it’s pure.Everyone can celebrate, regardless of race and religion and it’s still okay to display pictures of turkeys without upsetting too many in these politically correct times.
