Sundays in the fall for me are pretty much a time to unwind after what’s usually been a hectic week and my favorite pastime is to be firmly entrenched in my favorite seat by 1 p.m. to watch the NFL Red Zone. However I can sometimes be persuaded to change the routine especially when I know the really nice fall days will soon be replaced by the reality of winter.
Your calendar says Halloween is tomorrow and you’re wondering why kids are roaming the neighborhood tonight dressed for trick-or-treating. Welcome to Toms River and several surrounding towns where Halloween (at least the best part for kids) comes a day early.
The date itself may not stand out like 9/11 or December 7th but clearly October 29th is one that thousands of Jersey Shore residents will likely never forget. It is the third anniversary of Hurricane or Superstorm Sandy striking our area with a fury whose impact can still be seen today and will so for years to come.
While it’s not always easy because of my schedule I make sure to attend at least one Penn State football game every fall and to keep that streak going it was off to Baltimore this past weekend where the Nittany Lions played Maryland at M&T Bank Stadium which is home of the NFL’s Ravens.
I’m going to touch on a few things this morning which starts of course with the New York Mets who are now just one win away from their first World Series in fifteen years and also mention another success for the Toms River South girls soccer team.
For the sake of those of you with no interest in the fact the Mets are two wins away from the World Series I will keep this brief. Then again you also might like reading about the Red Bank Bucs big weekend and my first meal at a Shore favorite restaurant.
