Belated Happy New Year everyone. It’s been some time since we’ve been together as I was tied up with the WOBM Christmas Classic and last week worked on a part-time basis. I do have a couple of thoughts to pass along on our basketball tournament which ended last Sunday.
On the surface you might question how the passing’s of Sheriff William Polhemus and Wallace Parlapanides are related outside of the fact that both died last Friday and their viewings will be held today. That’s where I come in.
The Second Amendment to the Constitution does indeed guarantee some sort of right to bear arms although what exactly our founding fathers meant has been and is more than ever a point subject to debate.
When people talk about Bill Polhemus they will no doubt focus on a career devoted to public service and law enforcement. However my memories of him go far beyond that as I know Bill from his days as a short-order cook which you will not find anywhere in his obituary.
In the wake of this weekend’s tragedy involving the Dallas Cowboys you can be sure many will call for the NFL to take a tougher stand on drunk driving offenses but the truth is that will make little difference.
Mike Gesicki of Southern Regional is expected to be one of the top basketball players in the shore this winter and a week from today will open his season against Toms River East. However you can bet that basketball is about the last thing on his mind even though the season opener is just 7 days away.
