Steven Wisnowski, 32, entered a guilty plea to an eight-count superseding indictment, according to the office of New Jersey U.S. Attorney Paul J. Fishman. He also faces a potential $250,000 fine for each charge.

The man who was dubbed the "Tri-County Bank Robber" held up banks in Toms River, Brick, Aberdeen, Edison, and Bayside, New York, from October 30, 2013 through January 7, 2014, authorities said.

Wisnowski acknowledged that in each instance, he would enter, clad in hats, hooded jackets, and wigs, and demand money from tellers, sometimes leading them to think that he was armed, and sometimes threatening violence.

In one of three robberies in Edison, Wisnowski appeared to point an object beneath his clothes at the teller, demanding hundreds, and counting down from 10.

In another, at a Fulton bank in Edison, he demanded that a teller fill a manila envelope with large bills, saying, "Give me what I want and nobody gets hurt," and hoisting his sweatshirt as though it concealed a gun.

Investigators who tracked Wisnowski's car to the branch ordered him to the ground as he emerged. Instead, he flung the cash-filled envelop and ran, only to be apprehended moments later, authorities said.

The robbery spree was investigated by police in Toms River, Brick, Aberdeen, Edison, and New York city, along with authorities from Ocean, Monmouth and Middlesex Counties, and the FBI.
