Beach badges, daily and seasonal, are selling fast along the Jersey shore, at least when the weather cooperates.

Manasquan, using numbers through the end of May, has already seen a 12 percent spike in badge and parking revenue this year.

"We've taken in about $740,000," said Walter Wall, the town's beach manager. "Some of that is because we raised the rates."

Adult season passes jumped from $70 to $80 since 2014. Parking for the season also spiked by $10. Despite the price increase, the number of badge sales is up from last year.

Wall said all beach and parking revenue goes directly back to the upkeep and operation of the beach, from equipment to special police.

Carl Jennings, director of recreation and human services for Long Branch, said the city is banking on another successful summer to follow last year's record revenue - $1.8 million. Pier Village, the dining and shopping center installed in the mid-2000s, has helped immensely

"Pier Village has really brought a lot of people to our beachfront," Jennings said. "When I first started this job, if we made $150,000 for the whole season, that was a lot."

Badge prices in Long Branch are the same as last summer - $45 for adults and $30 for minors above 13 years old.

Prices are steady in Seaside Heights as well, according to the borough administrator. The website for the borough of Belmar indicates daily badges are $8 and season badges are $55 for adults.

Atlantic City and the Wildwoods still offer free beach access.
