Belmar will be taking to Twitter & Facebook  in hopes of clinching the title this year.

“Well you know, we just want to gear up for a great summer and this is a friendly competition amongst shore communities to be chosen as the Best Beach at the Jersey Shore.”

Doherty cites its one mile smoke-free, non-commericialized boardwalk with quaint places to eat as a nice feature. “All the business are owned by families or individuals. They’re all small business owners and it gives it much more of a hometown feel.”

Doherty says they’ve also made a conscious effort to make Belmar Beach more family friendly. He says its beach has activities for children like boogie boarding, kayaking and surfing. He says they also offer surf camp at 3rd Avenue Beach where kids of all ages can take surfing lessons.

He says they’ve even made its beach more accessible by being the first beach in New Jersey to install Mobi Mats that roll out from the Boardwalk to the high water point where people can operate wheel chairs, use crutches or strollers to get to the sand.

He says they’ve also partnered with New Jersey transit to create packages which make family beach visits more affordable.

You can cast your vote in the Annual New Jersey Top Ten Beaches Poll hosted by the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium and the Richard Stockton Center of Coastal Research at njtoptenbeaches.org
