John Shubert, 40, of Carlisle Road in the Silver Ridge section, was apprehended at his home and charged with burglary and theft June 23. He was placed in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, with bail set at $10,000, police said.

Victims told authorities that jewelry was among the items taken, and that entry was gained through a window while they were not at home.

Patrolman Warren Black summoned detectives, who canvassed the neighborhood. Investigator William Somers discovered a second house on the same street that had been ransacked. Police said that the victim identified jewelry in Shubert's possession.
