Mayor Michael Bloomberg says  that the Boston Marathon bombing suspects were headed to New York last Thursday night not to party but to explode their remaining bombs.

At a press conference with NYPD Ray Kelly, Bloomberg said Dzhokhar & Tamerlan Tsarnaev hijacked a car in Watertown, Massachusetts on Thursday night after the FBI released images of them to the public.

“We don’t know if we would have been able to stop the terrorists had they arrived here from Boston,”  Bloomberg said. “We’re just thankful that we didn’t have to find out that answer.”

Their spontaneous plan were spoiled when the driver of the hijacked car escaped when he was ordered to pull into a gas station to fuel up.

This led to a massive gunfire battle with police that led to Tamerlan’s death.

From his hospital bed 19-year-old Dzhokhar at first said during his interrogation they were going to party in New York but in a second interview revealed the  potentially more deadly plan.

When asked why investigators believe the second version of their New York plans, Bloomberg said,”We have to assume the worst and deploy our resources to make sure it doesn’t happen. It would be wonderful if it wasn’t true. But this does appear to be what the FBI and the Boston police are telling us and what the guy said.”

Bloomberg said he and Kelly were told on Wednesday night by investigators in Boston of the plan. The Tsarnaev brothers were carrying a pressure cooker bomb and 5 pipe bombs for their planned trip south.

A picture was released yesterday of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev visiting Times Square last.
