A collape at the Beachwood Mall demolition site in Berkeley Township this afternoon has left one worker dead.

Al Della Fave, spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says Berkeley Township police received a 9-1-1 call that the roof had collapsed at about 2:14 p.m. on Thursday afternoon on top of a worker from Edgewood Properties of Piscataway working on demolition of the shopping center on Route 9.

Emergency crews responded to the scene as workers dug through the debris to reach the man, identified as Raymond Crosby, 52, of Keansburg.  Members of the Bayville Fire Company reached Crosby and found him unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:02 p.m.

Della Fave says OSHA will lead the investigation into the accident.

Demolition of the Beachwood Shopping Center, which had become an eyesore and in disrepair the past several years, began in June.
