I first became aware of Todd Durkin during his sophomore or junior year at Brick Township High School and before he graduated in 1989 I would interview and talk with him on numerous occasions. He was a two-time member of the WOBM All-County Football Team, starring as a quarterback for Warren Wolf’s Green Dragons. He also played in the WOBM Christmas Classic and in his junior year the Green Dragons won the title for the first and only time in school history.

Todd was a very impressive student-athlete at Brick and handled himself as well off the field and court as he did on. He was an exceptional student-athlete and as much as he loved football academics was the main reason he chose to attend William & Mary. Following his graduation in 1993 with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Durkin played football overseas for a brief time before a back injury sent him into the real world…a world he has shined in even more than during his playing days for the Green & White.

Durkin is an internationally recognized personal trainer, strength, speed and conditioning coach, author and speaker. He currently owns and operates Fitness Quest 10 in San Diego which has been named one of America’s Top 10 Gyms for the past five years by Men’s Health magazine. As a trainer his clients include a laundry list of pro athletes and Olympians, including Saints quarterback Drew Brees. The 44-year old Durkin is one of the ten elite trainers who will be appearing on the new NBC Series “Strong” which premieres this week (Wednesday and Thursday).

After more than two decades I got a chance to catch up with Durkin which in itself is an accomplishment because he is always a man on the move.
