Brick Police announced the death of patrolman Kristopher DeMarco on Sunday after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

DeMarco, 39, had been an officer in Brick since 2003 after graduating with Ocean County Police Academy Class #81. He worked primarily on the midnight shift and was also a field training officer. He also served the department as a background investigator and as an assistant to the Department’s Training Unit.

DeMarco's other roles included being a member of the Brick Township Police Department’s Special Emergency Response Team since January 2007. Kris was also assigned to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Special Operations Group from 2009 – 2010. He was named Policeman of the Year in 2007.

He also served the Police Benevolent Association #230 as financial secretary and on the executive board.

DeMarco earned a Meritorious Service Award, Grand Cordon Award, Superstorm Sandy Award, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Douglas C. King Award and numerous letters of commendation from the citizens that he served during his career.

The statement from Brick Police did not say when DeMarco passed away.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by the Quinn Hopping Funeral Home of Toms River but have not yet been announced.
