A little of this and a little of that as schools open today after what was a nice spring recess for most.

The Major League Baseball season officially opened Sunday with three games including a meeting between the Mets and Royals in Kansas City which felt more like game #6 of the World Series then opening day.

For sure the results were the same as Yoenis Cespedes dropped a routine fly ball that led to an unearned run and the Mets failed time and time again with runners in scoring position.  KC’s 4-3 victory means at best the Mets will go 161-1 this season.

The Yankees postponed their season opener n the Bronx against Houston until Tuesday afternoon while the Phillies are in Cincinnati.  Former Reds third baseman Todd Frazier of Toms River makes his debut with the Chicago White Sox in Oakland tonight. Frazier is expected to bat 4th in the Sox lineup.

I had a good time Friday night during Central Regional’s Alumni Night celebration at Spicy’s in Seaside Heights.  I was able to catch up a bit with some former classmates and old friends, including Tuckerton Police Chief Mike Caputo who, like me, grew up in Seaside.

Mike was trying to recruit me to play in an alumni football game between Central and Lacey on June 4th for one reason only: so he wouldn’t be the oldest player to put on the pads.  As I told him I , I wasn’t any good in the 70’s so why would I get out there more than 40 years later?

With all the money they have spent on advertising that their side is the correct one you would think Comcast and YES could try a bit harder to find middle ground in their on-going dispute which will result in many Yankee fans missing today’s season opener on TV.  As it is in most cases both sides are stretching the truth when telling their story and caught right in the middle are many local Yankee fans who have limited if any options.

For friends like Paul Kelly and Steve Zengel I would really like to see Villanova beat North Carolina tonight and win the NCAA Basketball Championship.  My head says Carolina is too deep and will dominate inside the paint and come away with a 75-67 victory.  Of course this from a guy who picked Michigan State to beat Kansas in the final.
