Trying To Understand ‘The Beautiful Game’

I will admit that I’m not much of a soccer fan. Like many fathers I coached for a time when my children played but I was clearly one who was better off telling the kids what to do rather than show them. Actually I was better off having other coaches who knew what to do.

A Perfect World for Men

I will admit that today’s main subject is one I’ve done before but frankly I overslept my alarm by nearly an hour and was going to lose the race against the clock so I went into the archives.

Here Come Football’s Playoffs

27 Shore Conference teams begin the quest this weekend to win a state sectional football championship. For some just being in the NJSIAA playoffs is an accomplishment while for others anything less than hoisting a championship trophy in early December would be a major disappointment.

A Sunday Without Football

Sundays in the fall for me are pretty much a time to unwind after what’s usually been a hectic week and my favorite pastime is to be firmly entrenched in my favorite seat by 1 p.m. to watch the NFL Red Zone. However I can sometimes be persuaded to change the routine especially when I know the really nice fall days will soon be replaced by the reality of winter.

The Lingering Impact of Superstorm Sandy

The date itself may not stand out like 9/11 or December 7th but clearly October 29th is one that thousands of Jersey Shore residents will likely never forget. It is the third anniversary of Hurricane or Superstorm Sandy striking our area with a fury whose impact can still be seen today and will so for years to come.

The Fall Classic and Sleep Deprivation

For more than 36 years my alarm clock has gone off somewhere between 2:22 a.m. and 2:50 a.m. and sleep has often taken a back seat when it comes to a choice between that and say watching a game.

A Great Weekend in Baltimore

While it’s not always easy because of my schedule I make sure to attend at least one Penn State football game every fall and to keep that streak going it was off to Baltimore this past weekend where the Nittany Lions played Maryland at M&T Bank Stadium which is home of the NFL’s Ravens.
