The third full week of the high school football season features the annual matchup of Toms River South and Toms River North which has been billed as the area’s version of the “Civil War.” It’s the 44th meeting between the two rivals going back to 1972 and it’s produced some memorable moments and great upsets.

Yogi Berra: Loved by 100% of most baseball fans

With the recent passing of baseball legend Yogi Berra there has been a lot said and written about concerning his famous quotes or as they are often referred to, “Yogi-isms.” Seems about half of what he is credited with saying are true although even those might have been embellished over the years.

Old School and Proud Of It

When someone says you are “old school” it’s there way of telling you that you are old fashioned and maybe disconnected from the way things are today. However the accepted definition of “old school” is anything that is from an earlier era and looked upon with high regard or respect. In that case I am “old school” and proud of it.

A Test of Good Sportsmanship for Penn State

Clearly it’s been a tough week for not only the Rutgers football program but everyone associated with the school. Saturday night the Scarlet Knights take the field against another school that knows what it’s like to deal with off the field distractions which can at times get ugly and my guess is Penn State fans will not have a lot of sympathy for the 4,000 or so Rutgers fans who make the trip to Happy Valley.

Skating on Thin Ice in Piscataway

I have never met Rutgers football coach Kyle Flood but everything I’ve heard about him from those that know him has been very positive. Stand-up guy, basically good-natured, hard-working. Just some of the ways the 44-year old Queens, New York native has been described to me.

Let The Football Games Begin

On what is a solemn day to remember throughout America we also celebrate the first full weekend of high school football in New Jersey, a game that in the best of times can bring schools and even communities together.  Of course as evidenced by what happened last year in Sayreville it can also tear them apart.
