Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood celebrates its partnership with its sister hospital in Long Branch. Denise Gaffney, Vice President of the Southern Campus' Foundation, said the move to change the hospital's name from Kimball Medical Center will not diminish its services or community commitment.

"The important thing they need to know is that we're increasing services here and it's going to be more convenient for them to be able to see specialist."

Gaffney said merging with the Long Branch hospital is part of a regionalized approach to healthcare, bringing state-of-the-art programs and doctors to the Northern Ocean County area. Gaffney notes that two programs, the Jacqueline Wilentz Breast Center and the Pediatric Emergency Room, introduced before the merger have been very successful.

Gaffney said they have many more programs planned for the future. "Those programs include bariatric services, multi-speciality surgical services, pediatric sub-specialists, a comprehensive sleep program, a Russian medical program and a transient ischemic attack (TIA) for outpatient treatment of mini-strokes."

They also recognized Dr. Paul Kimball's legacy in establishing Ocean County's first hospital.
