Chris Christie called the New York Daily News "reprehensible" for a front cover headline about the San Bernardino shooting he said "degrades the power of prayer" and said the attack is proof we are "in the midst of a world war."

The cover Thursday showed tweets from conservatives offering prayers for the victims of Wednesday's shooting and the headline "God isn't fixing this." It continues: "As the latest batch of innocent Americans are left dying in pools of blood, cowards who could truly end gun scourge continue to hide behind meaningless platitudes."

Christie's Tweet wasn't singled out on the cover, though he'd offered a similar one:

"The Daily News, for their own liberal pursuits of trying to eliminate the Second Amendment, want to put that kind of cover on and degrade the power of prayer. I'm sorry, the power of prayer is the most powerful thing in the world," Christie told Greta Van Sustren on Fox News. He said the "relentlessness" of the liberal media is displayed on the Daily News' cover.

The newspaper took another swipe at gun rights advocates Friday — grouping NRA president Wayne LaPierre, with pictures of mass-shooting gunmen Adam Lanza, James Holmes, Dylan Roof and Robert Dear.

"He's a terrorist" blared the front page, referring to San Bernardino gunman Syed Farook. Over pictures of the other gunmen, all white, from past incidents, the cover read "But so are these guys." And then "AND this guy" over LaPierre.

he Daily News said in Friday's edition LaPierre had not responded to the newspaper's request for comment on the San Bernardino shooting.

Christie on Fox said of the attacks that  "as soon as I started watching the coverage of these attacks you knew this was not workplace violence."

"If a developmental center in San Bernardino is a target, anything in America is a target," he said.

Christie said that because we live in a "free, open society" that "you can't prevent every bad thing from happening."

"But the greater our intelligence capability is the better our chance of connecting the dots before it from happening," said Christie.

He said "we know we've degraded our intelligence capability," blaming President Barack Obama and members of Congress, including Republicans, for scaling back metadata gathering. And he said comments by Obama and Democrats have "killed the morale of our intelligence community."
