"Yeah, well, because they practice in New Jersey, they play in New Jersey; most of their players live in New Jersey," Christie tells NFL Media's Melissa Stark in an interview that will air in its entirety during their NFL coverage today. "There's nothing left from New York about the Giants or the Jets, except for the name. It's kinda odd that they're called what they're called."

Christie roots for the Jets but revealed over the summer at one of his town hall meetings over the summer he is a Dallas Cowboys fan when a student at the Samsel Upper Elementary School in Parlin asked what his favorite teams were. After answering that he is a Knicks and Mets fan, he said, "My favorite football team, are the Dallas Cowboys," an answer he admits makes his staff nervous.

He will be at AT+T Stadium in Dallas with the chairman of the Republican National Committee rooting for the Cowboys in their season opener against the Giants.

Christie also is working to make sure that the location of Super Bowl XLVIII is not lost: MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. "As long as everyone understands that (the Giants and Jets) are New Jersey's teams and that the Super Bowl this year is in New Jersey, not New York, then I'm fine," says Christie.
