Commuters in Southern Ocean County would no longer have to worry about parking in an unlit, pothole-ridden dirt lot off Route 549 in Little Egg Harbor.

Jersey Shore lawmakers, state Senator Chris Connors, Assemblyman Brian Rumpf and Assemblywoman DiAnne Gove, have announced a tentative agreement between the county and Turnpike Authority for the construction of a commuter lot off Route 539 off Garden State Parkway exit 58.

Senator Connors tells WOBM news the Turnpike Authority would pay for the lot to be paved and install proper lighting. The County would be reimbursed for any necessary permit fees and would eventually be responsible for maintaining the lot.

Connors points out there are two parking facilities available off parkway exit 81 in Toms River and in Lacey Township at the rest area, but not in the Little Egg-Tuckerton area. He says many southern Ocean County residents travel south to work in Atlantic City.
