Comprehensive Breast Center Dedication at Kimball

A second hospital in the Saint Barnabas Health System opens a comprehensive breast health program in Ocean County. The Kimball Medical Center will be dedicating a satellite location of the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center adjacent to the Lakewood Hospital on Tuesday January 8th.

Dr. Jorge Pardes, Director of Breast Imaging for Monmouth Medical Center explains community need was the driving force behind placing the center in Lakewood.

Dr. Pardes says the satellite location will offer mainly mammography screening but there

will also be access to the Breast Cancer High Risk Program. He says patients at the satellite office will also be able to use all the preventive, diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitation, psychosocial and educational services that the Wilentz Center provides under one roof.

Dr. Pardes says when it comes to battling breast cancer early detection is key. He says now woman are recommended to start annual mammography screenings at the age of 40. He says the state-of-the-art digital mammography screenings can detect cancerous lesions when they're very tiny, maybe a fifth of an inch, which can result in a cure.

The dedication takes place at 500 River Avenue, Suite 200, at 5 p.m. It follows the dedication of the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Breast Center in Howell last summer.
