Police cite two reports by residents in the past week in which phone callers advised them of virus activity in their PCs, which they claimed could be repaired through the Internet and seeking credit card numbers to supply "virus protection."

One victim reported remote manipulation of a computer and both reported invasion of their accounts, with money transferred to Western Union, police said, adding that neither got any goods or services.

Police urge you to offer no financial or sensitive personal data to phone or web-based solicitors that you don't know. If you think that you've been scammed as well, reach Brick Township PD Detective Greg Mullarkey, 732-262-1122.
