As many as 100 homeless, disabled and low-income military veterans and their families in New Jersey will move into affordable dwellings for up to 15 years, at the end of a process just beginning through the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs (DCA).

The state agency is fielding applications from local government entities, for-profit and non-profit groups to administer the federal Section 8 vouchers that will subsidize rents within market-rate complexes.

According to information from DCA, service providers that qualify will receive no more than 20 vouchers that will be administered to veterans identified by the local agencies.

Homes must be ready for occupancy within three months. Ex-service members would pay no more than 30 percent of their adjusted annual incomes for housing.

Before the June 19 due date for proposals, DCA will conduct a bidder's conference, June 8 in Trenton. Vouchers will be distributed July 20.
