A felon who served 15 years in prison for robbing a shore store in Toms River in 1999 is accused of going back to settle the score – the day after his release.

Christopher M. Miller, 40, who gave his address as Tulsa, Oklahoma, was apprehended several blocks from the Stride-Rite on Hooper Avenue where two workers said he took the entire cash drawer and their cell phones Saturday afternoon, police said.

Miller was released Friday from South Woods State Prison in Bridgeton for the robbery in which he was convicted of tying up employees in the back of the store, along with several other crimes, police said.

Miller took a bus from Atlantic City to Toms River and headed for the store, police said.

According to investigators, a 17-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman said that the suspect walked in and demanded cash, but became “agitated” and took the drawer containing $389 himself.

The victims told officers that they refused his orders to retreat to the back of the shop and to hand over their car keys, so he took their cell phones and a store phone and ran, police said.

Authorities say they found Miller on Feathertree Drive, found the phones in a trash can at the shopping plaza and found the money in a rainspout behind the structure.

Miller was charged with robbery and placed in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River, with bail set at $100,000, police said.
