Police and the Monmouth County SPCA are looking for the person who left a maggot-infested cocker spaniel stuffed inside a cat carrier at Manalapan vet's office on Thursday.

MSCPA CEO and chief law enforcement officer Ross Licitra said the dog, who has the shelter has named Grace, was found outside the Town and Country Veterinary Hospital in Manalapan.

"It's loaded with maggots all over its body including the ears. This dog has been extraordinarily neglected and abused," Licitra said.

Licitra said the dog's fur was extremely matted and its body also had severe eye infections, untreated tumors and open wounds on its paws.

"We are looking for any clues on who could have done this or where this poor dog came from," Licitra said.

Authorities are asking anyone with information to call the Monmouth County SPCA at 732-542-0040 or the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office 732-577-8700.
