All things being equal the championship game of a boys basketball tournament usually garners considerably more interest and attendance than the girls game which is why the Shore Conference Tournament has the ladies play first as part of their title game doubleheader at Monmouth University.

However this year things are not equal and tonight there actually might be more interest in the girls matchup which features the #1 and #2 ranked teams in New Jersey. Undefeated St. Rose and defending champion Manasquan meet for the third time in the last four years to settle the issue of the best girls team at the shore and state, for now. The Purple Roses beat Squan 60-57 on Valentine’s Day and two weeks later the Warriors try and get their revenge and nobody would be surprised if the teams met again next month in the Tournament of Champions.

The Girls final tips off at 6:30 in the MAC at Monmouth followed by the boys championship game in which CBA is heavily favored to win their 17th Shore Conference Tournament title and first since 2010 against upstart Rumson. It’s just the second time the Bulldogs have reached the title game having lost to Raritan four years ago. The most interesting battle in this game might be between the student sections with Rumson’s “Dawgpound” trying to hold their own against the famed “Colt Crazies.”
