Mario Scarnici,76,  of Monmouth Junction, accompanied by his two adult sons and his wife presented the third and final winning ticket several weeks the drawing and the holders of the other tickets came forward.

The New Jersey Lottery said Scarnici and his family did not reveal their plans for their new found wealth which came from numbers picked using quick pick at the Stop and Shop on Route 1 in South Brunswick. “I go in the store and buy a newspaper and lottery tickets,” shared Scarnici, a long-time lottery player. Scarnici bought three tickets for the August 7 drawing.

As did the other winners, Scarnici took the cash option which made the jackpot worth $258 million. Each winning ticket had a value of around $86 million before taxes, making each ticket worth $62 million.

It was the first time in 20 years that two winning jackpot tickets were sold in the same state according to the New Jersey Lottery. The last time was in 1993 when two tickets were sold in the District of Columbia.

Powerball is creeping up again no winner since August 7. Wednesday night’s drawing has an annuity value of $92 million and a cash value of $51.4 million.
