Baseball might be the national pastime, but vegetarian dishes could soon be the national food if the offerings at baseball games are any indication.

That's why People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has ranked the Top 10 Most Vegetarian-Friendly Minor League Ballparks, and First Energy Park in Lakewood has grabbed the number three spot.

Earlier this season, the Horizon Healthy Plate concession stand opened up at the stadium.  It has been serving up several things from veggie burgers and sweet potato fries to veggie hot dogs and Portobello mushroom sandwiches.  There are also several offerings in the suites upstairs like angel hair pasta, veggie wrap and a meat-free taco.

Ken Montville with PETA says "going vegan is a great way to lose unwanted pounds, increase their energy and cut the risk of diabetes, cancer and heart disease.  And now you have athletes who realize they can increase their endurance by doing the same thing."

In addition, those meaty favorites like hot dogs and burgers could come from farms or slaughterhouses that mistreat the animals.  Montville adds "the vegan options ensure that animals aren't harmed."

Arm and Hammer Park, home of the Trenton Thunder, came in at fifth place on the list.
