A longtime officer on the Toms River police force achieves Sergeant's stripes, and five new enlistees take over for recent retirees.

At ceremonies during Tuesday's Township Council meeting, Stephen Eubanks was sworn in as a Sergeant by Chief Mitch Little.

Eubanks is a U.S. Navy veteran, having served from 1988 through 1995. H joined the department in 2001, following three years on the force in Greensboro, North Carolina from 1996 to 1999.

In Toms River, Eubanks most recently has patrolled with his K-9 partner, Boris. He is also a certified emergency medical technician, and has served in the Emergency Services Unit.

Also taking their oaths were Probationary Officers Andrew Gannon of Toms River, Brett Hansen of Brick, Michael Kimble of Howell, Kyle Lamar of Beachwood, and John Minor of Bayville.
