Freehold School District Hopes to Move Beyond Core Standards [AUDIO]

A School District in Western Monmouth County isn’t just trying to meet New Jersey’s Core Curriculum Standards, they’re trying to exceed them. That’s the goal of the Freehold Regional High School District as officials unveil a new Strategic Plan Draft on Monday December 12th.

Superintendent Charles Sampson says when you have six recognized High Performing High Schools, “I think the work is in identifying the areas that we can improve across the board. Move more kids into honors and advanced courses. Move more kids out of remedial courses.”

Sampson says the Strategic Plan Draft aims to use the Core Standards as a base and create a central organizing system with measurable goals and benchmarks so the entire District can move toward excellence.

Sampson says the plan has been a massive undertaking that’s been in the works for several months. He says “it covers everything from course selection, to safe facilities, to technology integration to how we hire personnel.” He also adds that It will be vetted further during a number of public forums by teachers, students, administrators and community members with hopes of finalization by May 2012.

The unveiling takes place at 11 a.m. at the Freehold Regional High School District Board of Education in Englishtown.

According the District Web Site , The FRHSD educates nearly 12,000 students in six high schools. Sampson says it’s the largest High School District in New Jersey.
