Gas and water main replacement projects rev up in Neptune

Heavy activity on the streets of Neptune Township points to even heavier activity below the surface for the next several months. Gas and water main replacement is under way on a multitude of roads.

New Jersey Natural Gas is replacing mains on Stockton, Franklin, Clark, Cookman, Lawrence, Benson, New Jersey, New York, and Central Avenues. Weather permitting, the company anticipates completing the job by October 2.

NJNG will spend the balance of October connecting the lines that feed homes from the mains that were replaced last Spring, according to information from the township. Gas main replacement is prioritized to streets to which owners who have been away for extended periods are returning to their primary homes.

New Jersey American Water is replacing its mains and laterals on Central Avenue, between Broadway and Seaview; Lawrence Avenue, from Broadway to Main; and Pennsylvania and Heck Avenues. Work is under way on Central and Heck. Two contractors have been enlisted, with the expectation of completing the replacements by December.
