Getting Your Eating Back Under Control After The Holidays

The holidays are over and now it’s time to get your eating back in check. But why does the number one New Year’s resolution fly out the window less than a week after we set it?

According to nutritionist Dr. Felicia Stoler, many weight loss goals we set are way too lofty and unrealistic. So many become restless, break the program and end up back at square one. The best way to get through it, according to Stoler, is to be reasonable. She explains “often times, people say they want to lose 50 to 100 pounds which isn’t always possible. There are a lot of factors involved. I suggest starting out small first and work up to your goal.”

Stoler feels a better resolution than losing a ton of weight would be to eat more healthy foods, drink more water and get a little bit of exercise.

Some tips offered by Dr. Stoler:

  •     Focusing on the fact that we eat food because we need to, in order to live
  •     Not making excuses for bingeing or overeating.
  •     Treating food like fuel and medicine for your body.
  •     More often than not, eating foods closer to the way they’re found in nature and   eating less “processed” foods.
  •    Buying foods that are in season and available locally.
  •    While cooking, preparing extra and putting some away for future ready-made meals.

In addition, Stoler tells us you can eat what you want in moderation. Just watch the calories and get some physical movement in your day.
