John Gorman, 49, has a September sentencing date for his guilty plea to one count of theft by deception, according to the office of acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni. The case was heard in Ocean County Superior Court in Toms River.

Investigators in 2014 found that between November 9, 2008 and July 31, 2010, Gorman swindled 19 people in the tri-state area.

Authorities said that Gorman, as a season ticket holder, convinced victims that he owned 28 season seats and was willing to sell them, supporting the ruse with season-ticket program information sent to him by the team.

As part of his plea agreement, Gorman's second-degree charge is being treated as a third-degree crime for sentencing purposes. He would also pay $116,650 restitution, and would be eligible for reduced prison time if a substantial amount of it is paid before sentencing.
