You might be depressed about another weekend that will feel more like winter than spring but be assured this should be the last stretch of winter-like weather as spring is about to arrive and stay.  I have no idea why I led with this but it seemed like a good idea.

Remember when the Democratic candidates for President vowed to stick with the issues and not play the dirty games their Republican rivals were engaging in?  Well Bernie and Hillary have arrived in New York and are not playing so nice heading into the April 19th primary there. While Senator Sanders has momentum on his side Clinton has a substantial lead in the delegate race and can pretty much cruise to the nomination with a big win in the state where she was a two-term Senator.  The gloves are off in the Big Apple!

The high school baseball schedule was wiped out by rain Thursday afternoon but the weather cleared and allowed Toms River North and Toms River South to play last night at Ken Frank Stadium and that was good news for Indians pitcher Trevor Wagner.  The Monmouth University recruit fired a no-hitter and South scored twice in the bottom of the 6th to collect a 2-0 victory.

Wagner struck out 9 and walked 3 to complete the first no-hitter in Ocean County this season.  The Indians broke a scoreless tie in the 6th when T.J. Scuderi tripled and then scored on a wild pitch. later in the inning Tom Campo doubled in an insurance run.  Details and video highlights are available at shoresportsnetwork.com.

Within the last 48 hours we have learned that Ocean County Freeholder John Bartlett will be getting treatment for an undisclosed type of cancer in Philadelphia. The longest serving Freeholder in New Jersey, Bartlett has been in office since 1979 and while he will be missing meetings will keep up on local affairs via a newly purchased IPhone.

The former high school teacher and Pine Beach resident is the backbone of the freeholder board, especially when it comes to financial matters and is widely respected and admired.  Here’s wishing him a full and speedy recovery.

If Jordan Spieth plays another round or two like he did yesterday than there will be little drama at the Masters on Sunday.  Here’s hoping that’s not the case and we get treated to a fantastic finish in Augusta.
