Governor Christie Predicts 2013 Win-Loss Record For Rutgers Football

Governor Chris Christie has high expectations for the Rutgers University football team. Among other things, he predicts the season will end with a bowl bid.

During an appearance on Townsquare Media’s Ask The Governor program Wednesday night, listener “Joe” asked Christie to predict the record for the Scarlet Knights. Christie anticipates the team will go 9-2 with a bowl bid – to go “storming” into the Big Ten in the 2014 season when “real football” comes to Piscataway.

Christie noted he wore his Rutgers scarlet when he was inducted into the Little League Hall of Excellence on Sunday.

“I think it will be a great year,” predicted Christie tonight, calling the upcoming season a “tweener” year for the team as they play their final year in the former Big East, now known as the American Athletic Conference. “I hope I’m not putting too much heat on Coach (Kyle) Flood,” laughed Christie, who he called a “good man.”

Ironically, Democrat for Governor Barbara Buono’s Director Of Communications David Turner was the first to re-tweet Christie’s prediction.

Christie expects that Flood, whose Scarlet Knights play in Fresno on Thursday night to open the season, will get word of Christie’s prediction via Twitter. “I really think he’s done a great job there,” added the governor, citing his recruitment. “I think he’s going to make the university proud.”

The Scarlet Knights take on the Bulldogs of Fresno State at 10:30 p.m. Thursday night, only the second time in team history Rutgers has opened the season in California. Their home opener is Saturday, September 7 when Rutgers hosts Norfolk State.
