Memories of a cold and dismal spring have faded and our first real hot weather of the summer is upon us.  Remember you promised not to complain.  Some random thoughts today:

I would like to thank all of those who have wished me a happy 37th work anniversary through LinkedIn which is a business-orientated social networking service.  Officially I won’t “celebrate” (if you want to call it that) my 37 years at WOBM until later in the month as I want to give my colleagues a bit more time to plan the mega-event which should come with a party, gifts and a nice vacation courtesy of management and ownership.

It would appear fans of the New York Mets are split in their opinions over the return of Jose Reyes who went 0-4 last night in his first game with the team since 2011.  Reyes, who played for three other teams after leaving New York, returned for his first major league game following a 59-game domestic violence suspension.

Fans gave him a warm ovation but he has not won over all of them, including my wife Jane, a devout Mets fan who would have preferred they did not sign him.

It’s always around this time of year when I pay some attention to the District 18 Little League Tournament because that’s the first step on the road to Williamsport. The final two teams left in the local tournament are Jackson Little League and the Holbrook Little League, both based in Jackson Township, after they won their games last night by a combined score of 30-5.  Both are undefeated in the districts and will meet for the right to advance to the sectionals.

Exciting times for former Freehold Township High School and Monmouth University pitcher Brad Brach of the Baltimore Orioles, who was named to the American League All-Star team Tuesday.  After two straight years as an All-Star Todd Frazier will not be appearing in next Tuesday’s game but he might be in San Diego anyway.

Frazier could get a chance to defend his title in the Home Run Derby when the participants are announced this week.  The Toms River native has 23 dingers in his first season with the Chicago White Sox which is 3rd most in baseball.
