Police in Manchester say that heroin and crack cocaine hidden in a hat led to the arrest of a Toms River man who allegedly planned to set up shop in a Route 37 motel room.

Anthony Huggins, 30, was charged Tuesday night with five counts related to possession and distribution of heroin and cocaine, and placed in the Ocean County Jail in Toms River on $20,000 bail.

According to investigators in the township's Narcotics Enforcement Team that was conducting surveillance outside the Comfort Inn, Huggins was approached at about 10:34 PM while he sat in a 2014 Kia Forte.

Police said that a search uncovered the drugs in the hat and elsewhere within his clothes. Investigators believe that he was at the motel expressly to sell heroin.

He was arrested without incident, police said. Members of the township's patrol and K9 units assisted.
