We’ve had Grey Thursday, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and today is Cyber Monday. Do you know what tomorrow is? Tuesday, just plain old Tuesday. Sounds nice.

Haven’t seen too many movies lately as the fall is such a busy time for me but did catch The Theory of Everything over the weekend and highly recommend it. It’s the story of the brilliant cosmologist Stephen Hawking and English actor Eddie Redmayne gives an incredible performance as Hawking, who at age 72 is still alive despite physical obstacles that were expected to end his life as a child. I would expect this movie to receive several Academy Award nominations.

Further proof that college football is a big business. A very big business. Bo Pelini was fired Sunday as the head coach at the University of Nebraska despite the fact the Cornhuskers won at least 9 games in each of his seven seasons as coach. It was obviously not good enough and the move will cost the university nearly $8 million which is what it owes Pelini, who was under contract.

My daughter Alex turned 23 on Thanksgiving Day and as part of her birthday present we spent Saturday in New York City. Along with our son Brandon and many of his friends we watched the Penn State football team lose to Michigan State at a Nittany Lions-friendly sports bar and then went to Madison Square Garden where the Penn State hockey team lost to Cornell. Probably should have just gone shopping.

The high school football season officially ends this coming weekend with NJSIAA Sectional Championship games played at several neutral sites. Our Shore Sports Network will broadcast the Jackson-Middletown South game Saturday night at Rutgers University. Of course the winter sports season is already under way with ice hockey starting last week and regular practice for basketball and wrestling just beginning.

Just two weeks from today we will announce the pairings for the 31st annual WOBM Christmas Classic during our annual “Tip off” Breakfast at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center in Toms River. The 32-team high school basketball tournament will run from December 20-30 at the Pine Belt Arena.

The only thing worse than being a Giants fan right now…is being a Jets fan.
