A Princeton man has been charged with sexually assaulting a female patient at the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey said in a statement that Richard Smith, 40, lifted the hospital gown of an incapacitated 25-year-old female patient and improperly touched her.

The patient care technician was arrested by Plainsboro Police and charged with aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual contact and criminal sexual contact. He is being being held on $200,000 bail at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.

Carey said Smith had worked at the hospital since May after working at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Hamilton and a private medical practice in Princeton.
