To prepare a classic holiday meal for 10 people this Thanksgiving, folks around the nation will spend an average of approximately $50. Here in New Jersey, though, the price tag is a bit higher.

Using the latest survey from the American Farm Bureau Federation, which analyzes Thanksgiving dinner prices each year, we traveled to a supermarket in Neptune to see how New Jersey's prices compare.

Garden State shoppers are paying more for almost everything.

The menu for a party of 10, according to the Federation, consists of turkey and stuffing, rolls, sweet potatoes, green peas, fresh cranberries, a carrot and celery tray, pumpkin pie with whipped cream, and milk and coffee.

After tallying the prices, New Jersey's total bill came in just under $64.

The turkey was the biggest difference-maker in the equation, costing $12 more in New Jersey compared to the rest of the nation. Here's the breakdown:

  • 16 lb. turkey - Nation: $23.04 New Jersey: $35.04
  • Sweet potatoes, 3 lbs. - Nation: 3.57 New Jersey: 3.87
  • Cubed stuffing, 14 oz. - Nation: 2.61 New Jersey: 2.69
